Asset Overview
Collection and item number: Robert Zigler Collection, #35a
Origin: Korubla Society, West Africa, c. 1990
Size: 33”H x 6”W x 6 1/2”D
Media: Dark-stained hardwood, red and white commercial paint
Note: The traditional mask of the Senufo Firespitter is a massive helmet that represents a mythical, composite animal
displaying a wide array of appendages (antlers, ears, teeth, horns). This is a smaller, decorative piece. Generally, a
chameleon adorns the Firespitter’s head, but the artist has converted it to a bird swallowing a lizard.
