Asset Overview

A mainstay display at the Musuem of Somerset, this Roman mosaic is one of the best preserved pieces of its era. Click on each caption point to reveal the fateful story of the hero Aeneas and Queen Dido of Carthage, from their meeting to Dido's eventual demise, as told in Virgil's Aeneid. If you'd like to know more about the Aeneid, then this Wikipedia article has a fairly comprehensive synopsis of the story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeneid#Story If you'd like to see the original source material, you can also read the Aeneid here (Books I-VI are the ones relevant to this mosaic): http://classics.mit.edu/Virgil/aeneid.html Finally, if you'd like to see the Low Ham Mosaic in person, please visit the Museum of Somerset; details can be found here: https://swheritage.org.uk/museum-of-somerset/ *This model was scanned for the Trust using a combination of open source photgrammetry software, including COLMAP, OpenMVS and Blender. If you'd like to know more, please feel free to ask in the comments section!*
