Asset Overview

James Deering, Vizcaya's founder, wanted the caravel to be the emblem of Vizcaya. While he had it represented throughout the estate, an intricate model made by maritime expert, Henry Brundage Culver, was in negotiation. Deering received a persuasive letter in favor of buying Culver’s San Cristobal Caravel. Learn more about the building of this model through James Deering's letters and see where it hangs now at https://virtualvizcaya.com/featured_item/10907/ Captured with photogrammetry as part of Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Technology and Digital Initiatives program.
