Vanguard Exploration Project Structure VII: The Spirit of Exploration The Spirit of Exploration was erected as a large-scale public sculpture in the inaugural Explorer settlement, The Avant-Garde, as a symbol for prosperity, knowledge, and expedition. Intended to inspire and encourage newly-commissioned Explorers, the spire elicits thoughts of industry and community through its beehive-inspired main form. The central, levitating orb represents the discovery of alt-matter, an energy source enabling both inter and trans-galactic travel. A plaque at the base of the The Spirit of Exploration reads: "In this, our brightest hour, we seek not to find - not to discover - not in vain. Rather, we seek simply to seek."
