Statue of a Vestal Virgin in Schönbrunn Palace Park. Vestal Virgin holding the eternal fire in an oil lamp. The statue from 1774 was created by Johann Baptist Hagenauer and Leonhard Posch.
Vestal virgin is the name given to a Roman priestess of the goddess Vesta. The priesthood consisted of six priestesses, aged between six and ten, who were destined to serve for thirty years. The main task was to keep the fire in the temple of Vesta, which was never allowed to go out.
