Volvon people lived East of Mount Diablo and Oakland California. This circle of rocks seemed to have been placed here and were used as a living room. Fifty feet away is another site probably of the same family group. Grinding holes in these rocks were used to grind acorns into a mash that was cooked in baskets using hot rocks. Acorns are bitter until they are mashed and tannic acid is rinsed out by soaking seven times in water. The large basin with the grinding hole was also used to mill the acorns, or later maize.
