Asset Overview

According to the inscription, the column dates from 4 June 1657 and was donated by Jacob Gerhard and his wife Anna. He was iron merchant and member of the "Aussern Rat" of the city of Vienna. Furthermore, it is noted on the column that it was renovated after each 100 years. The original location of the column is unknown. There was a presumption that it could be the so-called "Räderkreuz" or "Pinterkreuz" (destroyed 1868). This stood at the execution site "Reder an der Straß" today Triesterstraße corner Kundratstraße. It seems certain that the shrine stood on the choir side of the old Matzleinsdorf church. This church, also known as the chimney sweep church, was built in 1725 and is about 70 years younger than the wayside shrine. In 1965 the church was demolished because it was seen as a traffic barrier. When demolishing the church, the wayside shrine was moved to the current location a few meters away. 48°11'08.7"N 16°21'47.7"E 27 Nov. 2019 Metashape 1.5.5 | Blender 2.81 | Canon EOS M50
