Asset Overview
An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill of Roman date (AD 80 to AD 120).
Approximately 50% of the brooch is present, with the pin, foot and catch plate missing.
In plan, the brooch is almost T-shaped, and D-shaped in cross section. The bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile, with cylindrical wings projecting from either side at the top. The wings have been decorated with a vertical groove, located next to the shoulder. A ridge is present at the shoulder between the wings and the bow. The back of the brooch is undecorated. The pin would have been hinged, with the axis bar being covered over.
