Asset Overview
An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill of Roman dating AD 80 to AD120.
Around 25% of the brooch is present, consisting of the bow. The wings, spring, pin, foot and catch plate are missing, presumed lost in antiquity.
The bow is angular and hump back, resembling a comma. It is broken around 1/3 of its length. Ridges are present at the shoulder junction between the bow and the wings. Decoration is present on the wings in the form of a vertical twisted rope style line. The wings are incomplete and consist of small stubs. A cylindrical recess is present behind the wings, this still contains the spring. Three coils are present to the left of the pin, and six on the right. The reverse is undecorated.
