Asset Overview
An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill of Roman date (AD 80 to AD 120).
Approximately 50% of the brooch is present, with the pin, foot and catch plate missing.
In plan, the brooch is almost T-shaped, and D-shaped in cross section. The bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile, with cylindrical wings projecting from either side at the top. A ridge is present at the shoulder between the bow and the wings. No decoration is present on the wings. Silver inlay wire in a curvilinear design is present in sections on the head of the bow. The back of the brooch is undecorated. A semi-cyclindrical recess is present behind the wings, this would have originally held the spring.
