Asset Overview

A complete copper alloy knife end cap from a scale-tang knife, of Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1600). The knife end cap is cylindrical with a slot through the centre. This slot still contains the end of the iron scale tang. The exterior is engraved with two saltires within rectangular frames and, on the proximal end, with eight radial lines (i.e. a cross on a saltire).
