Asset Overview
Youth or Summer, Relief in marble, after the original model from 1836. (A639). Thorvaldsen Museum (Copenhagen, Denmark). Made with Memento Beta (now ReMake) from AutoDesk.
After the apple tree has bloomed, it of course bears fruit. Accordingly, the floral wreath in the spring relief is here replaced, in the summer relief, by an apple, which the male subject holds up before a woman. The scene brings to mind associations with both the Bible (the Fall) and classical mythology (the Judgment of Paris), but basically only concerns love and fecundity.
