Asset Overview
At Pearl Harbor, Admiral Nimitz’s CINCPAC headquarters had a three boat flotilla: 40ft barge with a blue hull rather than a regulation black hull for Nimitz as a four star admiral; 40ft regulation barge (black hull) used by Nimitz’s Chief of Staff, a two star admiral; 35ft gray officer’s motor boat used by CINCPAC staff. A month after his oromotion to Fleet Admiral (five-star), Nimitz transferred his operational headquarters to Guam in January 1945. There, he had a Higgins boat converted to a barge. This is a 35ft US Navy motorboat restored to the appearance of the barge Admiral Nimitz used at Pearl Harbor, 1942-1944. This artifact is on display at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas.
