Asset Overview

Avro 683 Lancaster is a British four-engine heavy bomber, in service with the Royal air force. Was the main, along with "Halifax" heavy bomber of the Royal air force during the Second world war (on account of his 3/4 of the entire bomb load dropped in WWII British aircraft). The first sortie "of Lancaster," was made in March 1942. All Lancasters flew more than 156 thousand sorties and dropped more than 600,000 tons of bombs. Also used for many other purposes, including accurate daylight attacks, delivering heavy bombs "Tallboy" and "Grand Slam". The most famous was in 1943 — during the operation "Big spanking" — the bombing of the dams in the Ruhr valley.
