Asset Overview

A British 4 engined Heavy Bomber, the Lancaster is an iconic bomber that is famous for the Dambusters raid in ww2. It was built to carry the largest bombs available at the time. When the United states entered the war, the Lancaster was mainly deployed as a night bomber, with the US flying fortress taking over day operations. Hence the black coloured undercarriage. Most Lancaster squadrons were based in Lincolnshire, and most knotably Raf Scampton which is the home of the British Red Arrows ( The red arrows also share the same squadron number as the Lancaster bomber squadron from ww2). As another side note the nearest Pub to the airbase is aptly named 'The Dambusters' after the famous raid. Been in charge of night raids, the Lancaster took part in one of the worst bombings of ww2. The bombing of Dresden in Germany was classed as one of the worsed mass bombings of a civilian town in ww2, and to this day remains controversial.
