EP-2 (DB-240) is a long-range bomber, twin-engined monoplane with a wing of type "reverse gull". The aircraft was designed by OKB-240 under the leadership of V. G. Ermolaev. The bomber was a development of the passenger aircraft "Steel-7", designed in NII GVF aircraft designer R. L. Bartini. Experienced DB-240 was first flown on 14 may 1940. Serial production started in October 1940. EP-2 produced at the factory number 18 in Voronezh and No. 125 (39) in Irkutsk. Production was interrupted in September 1941 and resumed in 1944. It was built 462 instance.
