Practicing using seperate parts to flesh out a ship's form before modeling detail. 'Components' are boxes extruded out into rough forms, then some edges were beveled to soften the forms. The cockpit was made using subsurf modifier and loop cuts used to influence the shape, then decimated and tiedied up with a few verts moved about, glass inset etc. Detail was added throughout by extruding, beveling and shifting vertecies about. having snap-to set to vertecies was very useful.
