Asset Overview

The Russian Kayk is essentially a small galley without rigging for sails, the term half-galley may have been used as well. While the earliest kayks from early 18th century had a similar hull to larger galleys, the boats at Svensksund were already influenced by Swedish innovations. These boats are closer in shape to the Swedish gun sloop but lack sails. After this battle they were replaced by full gun sloops. The word kayk evidently comes from Turkish and was adopted into Russian from the Black Sea. Hull dimensions: • Length at waterline: 22.9 m • Greatest width (breadth): 5.9 m • Greatest depth: ≈ 1 m Ship 08, Russian kaik Zlobnaya, 10 rowing banks, 11.5.2020, programs: Blender, Substance Painter, Modo, Photoshop, UE4.
