Manfred Albrecht Baron von Richthofen (born May 2, 1892 in the Wroclaw suburb of Kleinburg [†], † April 21, 1918 near Vaux-sur-Somme, Département Somme) was a German officer and fighter pilot in the First World War. He achieved the highest number of aerial victories achieved by a single pilot in the First World War. The well-known nickname “The Red Baron” was first given by Richthofen, who flew most of his missions in more or less red-painted aircraft, only after the war. Richthofen is one of the most famous pilots worldwide. Numerous films, books and other media about him have been created.
