Asset Overview

This is a 3D model of an ancient terracotta vessel decoration in the British Museum (catalog no. 1856,1226.223). The figure of Scylla (Skylla) was bequeathed to the museum by Sir William Temple in 1856. It dates to c. 300 - 200 BCE. It shows Scylla as a female figure on top with a lower body that forms into three dogs. In mythology, she was described as a monster with six legs and six heads, springing from various parts of her body. Each part had three rows of teeth.
