Asset Overview
This is a 3D model of an ancient marble sculpture in the Louvre (catalog no. MR 122). The sculpture is dated to the 2nd c. CE and was from Aphodisias in Turkey. The Borghese Centaur shows a centaur and the god Eros. In mythology, the centaur is a half-human, half-horse monstrous creature. On top of his back sits Cupid (Eros), the god of desire who is portrayed here as a winged baby. This statue follows the Old Centaur statue type.
