Asset Overview

This 3D model of the terrestrial, omnivorous protosuchian crocodyliform "Gomphosuchus" (UCMP 97638) from the Early Jurassic Kayenta Formation of Arizona, North America. Still not formally described, this fascinating taxon has heterodont teeth and a robust chin, lending to its current, informal name. Read more on how the evolution of skull shape in crocodilians affected jaw muscle function in Sellers et al (2022) in in Anatomical Record: https://doi.org/10.1002/ar.24912.
