Жуки-мягкотелки питаются на цветах, где их поджидает смертельная опасность - споры гриба. Зараженные грибом жуки впиваются жвалами в цветок перед смертью. Через 15-20 часов брюшко мертвого жука опухает, а крылья раскрываются. Для самцов этих жуков такая поза означает готовность самки к размножению. Самец, пытаясь спариться с зомби-самкой, подхватывает споры гриба и разносит их на другие цветки и жуков. Soldier beetles feed on flowers, where they can find a mortal danger - fungal spores. Beetles infected with a fungus bite a flower before they die. After 15-20 hours, the abdomen of a dead beetle swells, and the wings are open. For the males of these beetles, this pose means the female’s willingness to reproduce. The male, trying to mate with a female-zombie, picks up spores of the fungus and carries them to other flowers and beetles.
