Asset Overview

Abalone Shell *Haliotis sp*., commonly known as “abalone” in the US, “paua” in New Zealand and “ormer”or “sea ear” in the UK, are large, herbivorous sea snails which have been commonly used for human consumption. While there are 230-species-level taxa described, *Haliotis sp*. shells are most notable for their wide, shallow, spiral structure containing a row of respiratory holes along their edge. Many species are also highly iridescent, making their shells desirable, decorative objects.
