The bucardo (Capra pyrenaica pyrenaica) is an extinct species that was considered a subspecies of ibex. This subspecies of Iberian ibex had been in danger of extinction since the beginning of the 20th century, and was classified as a "critically endangered species" (CR) by the Specialist Caprinae Group of the IUCN in 1997.1 On 6 January 2000 it was found dead the last specimen, a female, living in Spain
