Asset Overview
This is the hard shell of a Chiton, a marine mollusc in the class Polyplacophora. Its shell is composed of eight separate shell plates, known as valves. Chitons have a relatively good fossil record, stretching back 400 million years. Chitons are found all over the world, from cold waters to the tropics. They live on hard surfaces, such as on or under rocks, or in rock crevices.
