Coral Fusion

This 3D model is built for raising awareness for the coral reefs. 4 versions of the same coral are mixed together, including the healthy, the dead, the 3D scanned and the 3D printed. Through contrasting the natural and the artificial, the default and the modern, this piece invokes our thinking about the future loss of pure organic beauty resulted from the threats to the coral populations. The coral reefs are in danger. If we don’t take actions now, all we get to appreciate in the future would be polygonal 3D scans. We don’t have to let that happen. What we can do is to avoid unintentional damages. First, avoid direct contact with marine species in recreational sports, and second, avoid indirect participation in the artisanal trade.
