F: Cypraeidae
Cowries are a family of small to large sea snails. Cowrie shells are identifiable by their rounded form and their openings being lined with 'teeth'. Juvenile cowrie's shells are typically unrecognizable from their fully grown counterparts. Cowrie shells have historically been used most commonly as currency, specifically in Africa and India. They have also had ritual use, have been used as jewelry, and as a form of dice for games.
