Daemonelix fossil

This fossil is along the Daemonelix trail at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument in Nebraska. Normally enclosed within a protective Plexiglas covering (not unlike a phonebooth), the enclosure was dismantled to complete the photography. Daemonelix is the distinctive burrow associated with Paleocastor, which was a Beaver relative from the Miocene (about 22 million years old) but was more like modern prairie dogs. This model was made using the photogrammetry software PhotoScan Professional. Feel free to download if for non-commercial purposes. Rights are retained by the US National Park Service.
