Datura or *Solanaceae* is a genus of nine species of vespertine flowering plants (it flowers nocturnally). All species of datura are poisonous and some also produce a psychoactive effect. Throughout history, datura plants have been used for both their effects as a poison and as a hallucinogen which has given them an association with the occult. Species of datura can be found in warm, often dry climates throughout North/Central America, Africa and Asia.
