Asset Overview
On Tuesday 25 October, a new sculpture of the poet, writer and translator Jan Skacel (1922, Vnorova - 1989, Brno) was officially unveiled in Brno, the author of which is the academic sculptor Jiří Sobotka. The statue is located on the southern slope of the park below Špilberk and is situated overlooking Mendlovo square.
The winning proposal for Jan Skácel's statue was selected from forty-four drafts.
The statue is conceived as a stylized poet's portrait made of welded stainless steel tubes, placed on a limestone pedestal. Individual tubes form an interesting portrait structure and the visitor can see the world around them through the view of the poet.
The realization cost CZK 2.6 million and was created within the framework of the Statues for Brno project.
Other references to the poet Jan Skácel, who lived in Brno, resemble a fountain in Svoboda Square with cast verbs on grates, a commemorative plaque on Kotlářská Street where he lived and Skácelova Street in Královo Pole.
