Asset Overview
Another amazing lion sculpture from central Copenhagen.
The sculpture is originally modeled by Auguste Nicholas Caïn (1821 – 1894).
Cain, the son of a butcher, was a highly regarded animal sculptor who modeled large-scale works for public locations in Paris, such as the Luxembourg Gardens, the Tuileries Gardens, and the city hall.
The sculpture was created in 1879 and the copy was installed at Jarmers Plads, Copenhagen in 1889 as a gift from Carl Jacobsen's Albertina Foundation.
