The way that we use words such as swine, sow, and porker when referring to humans shows how many people view pigs, as dirty and most importantly as less than humans. This appropriation of words extends beyond just pigs with words like bitch and heifer, to name just a few. With PIGment I want to explore this relationship by artistically ‘branding’ 3d models with some of these commonly used words. The font used as well as the size and color are meant to be bold and almost in your face. I want the viewer to feel the aggression that some of these words can often carry. The use of a common tattoo aesthetic, words in a scripty cursive font, serves to humanize this branding. By using something like a tattoo that can be seen throughout many areas of human culture it brings a human quality to the pig, placing the pig as an equal to the human rather than as a lesser being.
