Asset Overview
Otto Lilienthal, the aviation pioneer, also tested his flying machines in Lichterfelde. To do this, he created a mountain in Lichterfelde Süd, which quickly became known as the 'Fly Mountain'.
The mountain was created by excavating a pit right next to the mountain. When digging the pit, clay was found that was burned into clay bricks in a factory next to the pit, now the carp pond. These bricks were yellow in color. Many houses in Lichterfelde are built from these bricks and give Lichterfelde a typical feature of its old houses.
Otto Lilienthal lived on Boothstrasse in Lichterfelde Ost. Unfortunately, the house is no longer there.
