Asset Overview
3D anatomical structure of the skull and endocranial features of an adult red-winged blackbird (Icteridae, Agelaius phoeniceus, OUVC 10682, Athens Co., Ohio), which was donated in 2010. Work on this project was done primarily by University of Tokyo student Meg Wakui while visiting WitmerLab in 2017. The skull was µCT-scanned with a voxel size of 48 µm (0.048 mm) at the OUµCT facility in August 2016. Digital extraction of anatomical structures was done using Avizo 9.2, 3D modeling was done using Maya. The brain endocast is blue, the cranial nerves yellow, the arteries red, the veins blue, and the endosseous labyrinth of the inner ear is pink.
