This is the skull of the rhesus monkey (*Macaca mulatta*) from the family of Cercopithecidae. Rhesus monkeys are most commonly found in western Afghanistan and all the way through India to northern Thailand. Historically, this species was also abundant in southern China and Tibet, however, humans have caused a drastic decline in these populations over the last century. Rhesus monkeys occupy the widest geographic range of all non-human primates as they are able to survive in a wide variety of habitats.
