Asset Overview
Background:
Tomoe Gozen was a late twelfth-century samurai warrior. She lived circa 1157 to 1247 and was known for her bravery. She served Minamoto no Yoshinaka, a general of the late Heian period of Japanese history, in the Genpei War shogunate Japan. Minamoto no Yoshinaka was a member of the Minamoto samurai clan. At this time exists a group of female warriors, also known as Onna-bugeisha. These women engaged in battle alongside samurai men and were trained in use weapons to protect household, family, and honour in times of war. Tomoe Gozen is one of these famous female warriors and belonging to the Japanese nobility (source: wikipedia).
