Totems are mis-named in that they are equivalent to family crests or a coat of arms. Embedded in their designs are additional reminders of family or national, historical, and allegorical narratitives. This one depicts a family crest signifying a marriage of Eagle and Bear clans. The Bear was a defender of the village.
