Uncle Apostle Knows Best!

A certain religious leader in the Netherlands from 1946 - 1984. Surrounded by his yesmen, he gradually exercised total control over the minds of his 30.000 followers. Claimed to be the Christ of the modern era. For those who grew up in the 'Apostolic Society' as it was called- he still represents a deeply disturbing influence to this day. From early childhood children were told 'they loved him'. He was omnipresent in every household; a large photo in the livingroom. He was woreshipped on sundays (twice) and wednesdays in his church and there were meetings almost every weekday, for singing, cleaning, maintenance, etc. Being emerged in all this -growing up- made it very hard to determine what one's real feelings are about -not only love, but....practically anything. He was succeeded bij his son (!) who proceeded in much the same way, although he got rid of the sharper edges of the personality cult. The Apostolic Society of this day claimes to have made changes in many ways, but still honors his legacy.
