Asset Overview

* Period/Epoch: Triassic / Late Triassic * Rock Formation: Unknown * State, County: Germany Taxonomy: Reptilia>Thecodontia>Phytosauridae> The phytosaurs were a group of reptiles from the Triassic, found throughout the globe but with more specimens named from North America. While they look very similar to crocodilians, they are currently designated as a sister group to Archosauria, the group that contains crocodilians and birds. Phytosaurs likely ate fish based on their conical teeth and elongated snouts, which came in two distinct shapes. This particular specimen originates in Germany, and is the left humerus of the animal.
