Diatryma is an extinct genus of flightless bird that lived around 56 million years ago. This bird was thought to have preyed on small mammals, but the lack of hooked claws and particular beak structures lead scientists to conclude it more likely that they were herbivores. These large birds stood as tall as 2 m (6.6 ft).
