Dust Roaster Cutaway Schematic

This is a schematic of a device invented by Prof. Peter Schubert of Purdue University. It takes lunar regolith and by intensely heating it, ionizing it, and passing it through an electric field, separates a large fraction of it into pure metals and oxygen. These resources are extremely valuable on the Moon. Developing this into a working machine would greatly facilitate lunar exploration and settlement. As we are working on a virtual Moon colony that is as scientifically and technically realistic as possible, this device is being set up as one of the models.
