The Beretta 951 was a battle pistol specifically designed for the Italian military. Dispite this, the pistol never served with the Italian Army, who instead opted to keep the Beretta M1934. Instead, the pistol would serve with the Navy and traffic police of Italy.
The pistol was adopted by Egypt who produced it under the name "Helwan". These versions of the 951 are most common.
The pistol served with Italy from 1949 to 1980 when it was fully replaced by the Beretta 92.
