Asset Overview
The prototype of the original Xbox unveiled by Bill Gates, Seamus Blackley and at GDC 2000. The design was not meant to represent the final project, rather to give developers a feel for what they would be working with. The consoles disc drive, ventilation and other ports were placed on the back side of the console and, because of the consoles' large size and being made out of a solid block of aluminum, the prototypes reportedly cost $18,000 each to manufacture. One of the prototype models is currently on display to the public at Microsoft's Visitor Center in Redmond, Washington.
