Improvements to the design of the refrigerator are credited to Swedes Baltazar von Platen and Carl Munters, who developed an innovative absorption refrigerator design at the Royal Institute in Stockholm. For the cooling process they used the phenomenon of evaporation, in which heat is drawn from the environment and transferred outwards. The entire cooling system, later referred to as the “Electrolux system”, uses ammonia as the refrigerant, as well as hydrogen and water.
The device could be powered with electricity, gas, or kerosene. The refrigerator model presented here is a development of that design. The cooling system consists of an ammonia solution container, a boiler, a condenser, an evaporator, and a heating element. The M 30 refrigerator belongs to a family of devices designed to be built-in.
