Cape gooseberry (scientific name: Physalis peruviana), also known as Peruvian bitter, is a perennial herb in the physalis family Solanaceae, with a plant height of 0.5-2.0 meters. The fruit is a small round fruit with a lantern-shaped pod, a little bigger than a thumb, and there are many small seeds inside. The ripe fruit is bright yellow and very sweet and can be used to bake fruit cakes and make jams.
