Sugar apples (*Annona squamosa*) are the bearing of the annona tree, and depending on the region, can have nicknames like sweetsop, custard apple, and the apropos scaly custard apple. They have scaly, green skin that can be described as knobby, like that of an artichoke, but more compact. Inside is white, shiny flesh often described as having a good aroma.
