Asset Overview
This 3D model represents a ceramic cup to drink *Yerba mate* (a caffeine-infused drink from leaves of Ilex paraguariensis). It is a souvenir cup wrapped with Peruvian textile pattern and has a *Machu Picchu* leather print. It was bought at a handcraft market in Lima city.
Its particular shape is linked to its functionality. The bottom is wider and rounded for pouring a significant amount of *Yerba mate* , whereas the opening is narrower helping to keep the drink hot. In addition, the metal straw, which is also represented in this 3D model, is called *bombilla* (See the annotations).
The Mate drink is very popular in many countries from South America, such as Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and some regions from Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. For many South Americans, specially Argentinians, its significance is beyond the drink, it is embedded in the daily routines and is also a social activity to share the mate cup while enjoying time with friends and family.
