The prototype of the Frania washing machine was built in 1953 by the Kieleckie Zakłady Wyrobów Metalowych. It was prepared by a team of designers consisting of Karol Domżał, Józef Janyst and Bolesław Augustyn. The Frania was designed as an impeller washing machine, which means that water was moved by an impeller at the bottom of the drum. Initially, the impellers were made of metal, which was, over time, substituted with plastic. Water had to be poured into the washing machine by hand. The model presented here is the FA-type washing machine. The device, powered with a 180W motor, did not require grounding or bootleg grounding. The washing machine had a tank with a capacity of 40 litres, with a minimum recommended water volume of 15 litres, and a roller mangle that retracted inside the drum, propelled by hand.
