Asset Overview

One of the tests conducted at the Digital Archaeology Lab lately was to create a model of the same wooden bowl using every application that we had at our disposal, so as to have comparative data. We chose this olive wood bowl because of its patterning and its interior. This particular model was made using Polycam, an iPad application with both LiDar and photogrammetry capabilities. We used the photogrammetry function to create this model. Overall, we thought the little bowl was a great way to examine how these applications captured organics like wood and smaller hollowware vessels, like this small bowl. Further, it had a slight shine to its surface, which was the natural shine of the wood (rather than a varnish), which was a good way to test how the applications captured lighting and reflection. If you want one of your own, we got it at Target :)
